Celts Have Talent!

To demonstrate that the pipes and drums are not just relegated to a defined set of rules you’ll see that they integrate well with other musical instruments and styles.  VI Caledonia won the 2018 Category A and Qualicum Beach Pipe Band won the Category B

The Celts Have Talent contests are held on two covered stages side by side that are curtained off in field number 5.

There two are two categories for Celts Have Talent; one for each stage. Each performance is from 5 to 10 minutes long.

Category A:  1 to Five Pipers + any instrument including vocals.  6 Entries Maximum  $1,000 first prize. Many pipers and drummers are joining Celtic Groups to complement them with a very special sound.

Category B:  6 pipers and more + any instrument – 5 Entries Maximum   $1,000 first prize. The objective is to have bands perform their medleys on stage and integrate other instruments to showcase the variety of music that can be produced.

Schedule: Groups for both categories are given 15 minutes to set up on their respective stage, play and then receive comments from the adjudicators.

Category A                                                           
First Group – 1:00pm setup on stage A  –   Play at 1:15pm
2nd Group  – 1:30pm setup on stage A  –   Play at 1:45pm
3rd Group   – 2:00pm setup on stage A  –   Play at 2:15pm
4th Group  – 2:30pm setup on stage A  –   Play at 2:45pm
5th Group   – 3:00pm setup on stage A  –   Play at 3:15pm
6th Group   – 3:30pm setup on stage A  –   Play at 3:45pm
7th Group   – 4:00pm setup on stage A  –   Play at 4:15pm

Category B
First Group – 1:15pm setup on stage B  –  Play at 1:30pm
2nd Group  – 1:45pm setup on stage B  –  Play at 2:00pm
3rd Group  – 2:15pm setup on stage B  –  Play at 2:30pm
4rth Group  – 2:45pm setup on stage B  –  Play at 3:00pm
5th Group  – 3:15pm setup on stage B  –  Play at 3:30pm
6th Group  – 3:45pm setup on stage B  –  Play at 4:00pm

Adjudication for these events is based on popularity via a panel of Celebrity Judges who may be well influenced by the audience as well as remarks made on Facebook
The judges will be asked for a short commentary after each performance and will mark each group based on their entertainment value.

Celts have Talent Information and Rules

Celts have Talent A

  • One to 5 pipers allowed
  • Pipes can be of any type ie. Small pipes
  • Any other instrument is allowed including vocals.
  • There are speakers & microphones and drum kit available for this contest and  a sound manager
  • (Participants are requested to check their setup with the stage & sound manager in the morning.
  • The First performers are asked to be at stage A or staging area at 1:00 pm to play at 1:15 pm
  • Participants  perform every ½ hour on the 15’s
  • Participants are given 15 minutes to move from the staging area to Stage A and be ready to perform at curtain call.
  • Master of Ceremonies opens the curtain; announce the group, includes a short background and music to be played.
  • Performance are 3 to 8 minutes.
  • At the end of the performance, the Group will stay on stage until a short review from the adjudicators is complete.
  • Note that the adjudicators will be local celebrities and that the winners are chosen by audience popularity with the final decision rendered by the adjudicators.
  • The winner receives a prize of $1,000

Celts have Talent B

  • There will not be any speakers or microphones provided  for this contest. (Bands must bring their own)
  • First performers will be asked to be at the staging area at 1:15 pm to play at 1:30 pm on Stage B
  • Participants  perform every ½ hour.( the schedule will be posted 1 week before the event to ensure there is no conflict.
  • Participants are given 15 minutes to move from the staging area to Stage B and be ready to perform at curtain call.
  • All participants shall present in Concert formation on stage B.
  • Master of Ceremonies opens the curtain; announce the group, include a short background and the music to be played.
  • Performance are 3 to 8 minutes.
  • At the end of the performance the Group stays on stage until a short review from the adjudicators is complete.
  • Note that the adjudicators are local celebrities and that the winners are chosen by audience popularity with final decision rendered by  the adjudicators.
  • The winner receives a  prize of $1,000 to be announced at the massed bands wrapup.
